Transgenders strip and attack Doctors, staff at Jaunpur hospital over FIR before treatment
Jaunpur: Chaos erupted at Amar Shaheed Umanath Singh District Hospital in Jaunpur on Friday night when a group of around 20-25 transgender individuals, some reportedly naked, stormed the premises in protest. They allegedly attacked doctors, nursing officers, pharmacists, and ward attendants after being asked to file an FIR first in connection with an assault case of one of their members. A video of the incident quickly went viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage.
The 45-minute-long chaos left four people seriously injured and caused panic among patients and their attendants, who were terrified to witness transgender individuals running naked through the emergency ward, chasing and assaulting doctors and hospital staff.
During the altercation, the group also destroyed the hospital property by climbing onto surgical tables during the altercation and then removing their clothes inside the ward. This caused disturbance and spread fear throughout the hospital premises.

The confrontation began around 8:45 PM when the group stormed the hospital’s emergency ward and reportedly assaulted and beat Dr. Pawan Singh, accusing him of not providing treatment to one of the members from their community. Other staff members, like the nursing officers, pharmacists, and ward attendants who tried to stop the attackers, were also injured in the scuffle.
The violence reportedly started after a transgender person came to the hospital seeking treatment for injuries from an earlier assault in the evening. The Free Press Journal has reported that the attackers made allegations about medical staff refusing to treat her. This led her to call her community leader, Akshita, who in turn, brought a large group to the hospital to confront the medical team.
Transgender leader Akshita accused doctors of refusing treatment and using abusive language. However, hospital staff maintained they had asked for an FIR to be filed first regarding the assault case, which led to the argument escalating into violence.
During the chaos, some members of the group reportedly removed their clothes and climbed onto surgical tables, causing panic among patients and staff. Meanwhile, the hospital administration and two security guards stood by without intervening. Their inaction during the incident has drawn sharp criticism.
By the time the police reached the scene, most of the attackers had fled. The hospital management then filed a complaint against the attackers, and later, an FIR was registered under attempt to murder charges. "CCTV footage is being reviewed for identification and arrests," said Station House Officer Mithilesh.
Taking cognisance of the matter, District Magistrate Dr Dinesh Chandra has ordered an impartial investigation into both the hospital incident and the original assault on the transgender person.
Speaking to IANS, District Magistrate Dinesh Chandra said, "Without thoroughly investigating a matter, it is not right to blame any one community. Members of the transgender community had come to meet me—several of them were injured. It is the responsibility of the district administration and police to ensure justice for everyone, so we listened to them. I have instructed the Kotwal to take their statements seriously and investigate how they got injured and why they did not receive proper treatment..."
