Bishalgarh: A doctor allegedly practising medicine using a fake MD degree has come under the scanner after the Bishalgarh subdivision administration conducted a raid at a private medical chamber in Durganagar market on Wednesday.

According to the news reports, the doctor, a resident of Gajaria under Bishalgarh subdivision, claimed to have completed his MBBS degree from Russia and possessed all necessary certificates. However, discrepancies were found in the qualifications mentioned on his prescriptions.

As per Tripura Info reports, during verification, authorities found that the doctor had been issuing prescriptions using the title MD (General Medicine), a qualification he is not legally authorised to use. The registration number printed on the prescriptions, TSMC 003693, was cross-checked with the Tripura State Medical Council (TSMC) records. The verification revealed that the registration was in the name of the doctor, holding only an MBBS degree, with no recognised MD qualification.

Further irregularities were uncovered when officials noted that the prescription pads falsely claimed that the doctor was associated with GBP Hospital. The administration confirmed that this claim was completely false and misleading.

Acting on the matter, a joint team comprising the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Medical Officer and officials from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office, including the DCM, conducted an administrative raid at the chamber around 4 pm. The inspection revealed that the clinic was found to be operating without mandatory permissions for a long period.

Speaking to Tripura Info, administrative officials stated that although the doctor may have completed his MBBS from Russia, using an MD degree on prescriptions and projecting himself as a specialist doctor without valid recognition from the Tripura Medical Council is illegal and punishable under medical practice regulations.

Following the raid, the doctor was ordered to immediately suspend all medical practice until valid licenses and authorisation documents are produced. Further legal and administrative action has been initiated, and the matter is expected to be referred to higher medical regulatory authorities for necessary proceedings.
