Two caught red handed selling illegal MTP Kits, arrested

Gurgaon:  Two persons have been arrested here for selling illegal Medical Termination of Pregnancy ( MTP ) kits. This makes three people being arrested in last four days, for terminating pregnancies illegally.

An FIR was registered under Section 15(2) of the Indian Medical Council Act, Sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, Sections 18A, 18B, 18C and 27 of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, and Sections 120B and 420 of the Indian Penal Code.

The arrests came after the health department officials received a tip on the said matter and formed a team which was led by Gurgaon deputy civil surgeon, Dr Pardeep Kumar.

Two of them have been identified as Ram Parkash Goel and Sachin, and both are residents of Civil Lines ,Goel holding a Diploma in pharmacy. They were caught red handed by the authorities

As a decoy, the team sent a woman who claimed she wanted to terminate her pregnancy in order to trap the duo.

As per police, Goel and Sachin provided the woman with an MTP kit (a combination drug used to terminate pregnancy) after she made the payment. The kit was handed over at a price of Rs 500, according to Indian express. 

The health department team then informed the police and after catching them red-handed after which both the accused were arrested. Later, they were released on bail.

According to Subhash Boken, the spokesperson of Gurgaon police, while further investigating the police found that the accused did not posses the license required for selling pregnancy termination drugs ."We are probing if the accused arrested this week are part of a larger nexus," he told The Indian Express.

A similar case has been found where the police arrested two people from Badshahpur for their alleged involvement in pregnancy termination earlier on Wednesday.
