Urologist arrested over Road Rage incident involving cop's wife, 2000 Doctors go on strike in Agra
Agra: More than 2,000 doctors in the city decided to strike after a doctor's car clashed with a car in which a police inspector's wife was travelling. Soon, the situation worsened verbally, reportedly leading to the Police arresting the doctor.
Following the incident, the doctors in Agra held a three-hour meeting at the Indian Medical Association's (IMA) building as they accused police of misconduct towards the doctor involved in the matter.
Even though a police apology was issued during the meeting, the matter remained unsolved. Meanwhile, the dispute escalated and ACP Hari Parvat Aditya Kumar arrived on the scene to intervene. Despite the talks between the doctors and police, no solution was presented. Following this, the officials at IMA issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the police, further mentioning that the doctors would remain on indefinite strike until then.

As per the latest media report by News 18, the confrontation started on Thursday morning, when Dr. Avinash, a senior doctor from Agra was travelling from his home to the hospital. On the way, his car met with an accident at Kargil Tiraha (Sikandra). This led to an altercation between the doctor and the driver of the other vehicle, who allegedly used abusive language.
It has been reported that the woman in the second car is the wife of Inspector Kaushal, who was previously stationed at Sikandra police station. The doctor alleged that the woman, a teacher by profession, started video-recording the incident. He also claimed that the Sikandra police officers apprehended him and subjected him to physical abuse while keeping him in police custody.
News 18 has reported that both parties have filed formal complaints regarding the matter. Meanwhile outraged by the incident, the doctors held a meeting at IMA Bhawan on Friday and during the three-hour-long meeting, they decided to remain on strike until action was taken against the responsible police officers.
The doctors refused to accept the apology issued by the police during the meeting. Arriving at the scene, ACP Hari Parvat Aditya Kumar assured those present that appropriate action would be taken after conducting an investigation within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, commenting on the matter, IMA Secretary Rajneesh Kumar informed News 18 that the female teacher whose car was involved in the accident with the doctor is the wise of former in-charge inspector of Mahila Thana Sikandra. He alleged that it was at the behest of the former in-charge that the police arrested the doctor and detained him in the lock up.
The video statement of the doctor was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by IMA JDN UP. "Senior Urologist Dr. Avinash Singh from #Agra was locked up like a criminal—without any documentary evidence! All because of the wife of ex-Sikandra Thana in-charge, Kaushik. If a police officer’s wife can harass and imprison a senior doctor without cause, what hope do ordinary citizens have? Where is justice when those who save lives are treated with such humiliation?" questioned the Association, adding that "This blatant abuse of power cannot be ignored! We demand strict action NOW!"
In the video, the doctor said, "In the morning I was traveling from my home to the hospital." He informed that at Kargil Tiraha (Sikandra), a car in front of him pressed brake and even though he also pressed the brake, by the time his car stopped, it clashed slightly with the other car in which the police inspector's wife was travelling. He alleged that coming out of the car, the driver started abusing him verbally and the woman also appeared outside the other window. Not wanting any altercation, he moved forward with his car and parked it nearby.
"These people followed me and I was shocked when police stopped my car at Sikandra crossing. When I stopped the car at the side, they started verbally abusing me, started recording video, and slapped me. I don't remember exactly who slapped me but it was someone from the police officials who slapped me. I kept telling them that there was no fault on my side. It was just a matter of reaction time problem. But they locked my car, took me to Sikandra Police station and locked me in the lock-up without any documentary evidence. They said that they got a call from higher officials," he said.
"For something which is a road rage, for which they can raise a complaint, for which they can go to the proper channels, and she was making a video. So, she can always show me if I have used any expletives, any wrong words against her or threatened her in any way. She is a wife of a former in-charge of Sikandra Thana, Ajay Kaushal. This is why this entire thing happened," he added.
