Ajmer: In a shocking incident, a female resident doctor at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital, Ajmer, has come under scrutiny for allegedly repeatedly slapping an elderly man following an accidental touch on her shoulder. CCTV cameras inside the hospital captured the entire incident that went viral on social media, sparking outrage.

In the viral video, an elderly man is seen walking outside the hospital’s OPD. While passing by, he appears to touch the doctor’s shoulder accidentally. In response, she is seen grabbing him and slapping him repeatedly. She continued to hit him before a bystander intervened, and she stopped.

After reviewing the CCTV footage, the hospital authorities constituted two separate committees to investigate the incident following a directive from the Chief Minister’s Office, which sought a report on the matter. It has been reported that neither party has filed an official complaint in connection with the case so far.

According to news reports, the incident took place on Saturday at around 11:09 am, when the elderly man was exiting the Eye Porch OPD, and his shoulder accidentally brushed against one of the two female residents walking towards him. One of the two interns reportedly became angry and started repeatedly slapping him and then dragging him by his shirt into the hall. Even though the man apologised to her multiple times, she reportedly refused to listen and continued her assault until a bystander intervened.

As per a Free Press Journal media report, CCTV footage suggests the contact was unintentional, occurring due to quick movement in the corridor. During the incident, security guards and hospital staff attempted to intervene but failed.

Following the incident, Superintendent Dr Arvind Khare and Deputy Superintendent Dr Amit Yadav reviewed the CCTV footage from the control room. Based on the footage, Dr Khare constituted two committees to probe the incident.

Speaking to Dainik Bhaskar, Dr Khare said, "This kind of indiscipline will not be tolerated. It is wrong to assault an elderly person."

In defence of the resident doctor, the Intern Doctors' Association of the college filed a complaint claiming the elderly man behaved inappropriately with her and that she acted in self-defence.

District Collector Lok Bandhu confirmed investigations are underway, with action to be taken according to regulations.
