West Bengal: Infectious Disease hospital Assistant Superintendent succumbs to dengue
Kolkata: An Assistant Superintendent of the state-run Infectious Disease Hospital in Kolkata's Beleghata died on Friday while undergoing treatment for dengue, a health official said.
Doctor Anirban Hazra, 40, was the assistant superintendent of the hospital. He was undergoing treatment at the hospital since November 1, the official said.

A temporary sanitation worker of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC), Dilip Rout, also died of dengue.
Rout, a resident of Tikiapara in Siliguri, was undergoing treatment at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, where he died on Thursday night, SMC's ward 28 councillor Samprita Das said.
In the last one week, over 5,000 people tested positive for dengue in West Bengal with most of the cases being reported from the North 24 Parganas district, the health official said.
Dr Anirban Hazra was shifted to the critical care unit and transfused six units of the platelet. But later on Friday morning, he started developing shortness of breath, went into shock and never recovered.
ID&BG Hospital medical superintendent and vice principal Asis Manna told TOI, '' He also got severe COVID infection about a year ago for which he underwent treatment in our hospital itself.''
Acute GI Haemorrhage followed by cardiac arrest has been mentioned as a cause of death in case of Dengue infection. Hospital staff said that Dr Hazra was an efficient and dedicated professional. His daughter is also recovering from a dengue infection at home.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that the Uttar Pradesh government had decided to cancel the leaves of all doctors and paramedical staff following a rise in dengue cases. The Chief Minister's Office has cancelled the leaves of doctors and paramedical staff. The Centre informed that it had decided to depute a high-level team to Uttar Pradesh in collaboration with the state authorities for instituting measures for dengue management in Firozabad, Agra, and Etawah districts.
