New Delhi: In a recent development, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has nominated three new members for the Institute Body of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Madurai.

Two of these newly nominated members- Shri P. Ravindhranath, and Shri Manickam Tagore are elected members of Lok Sabha, whereas Shri N. Chandrasegharan is a member of the Rajya Sabha.

In a recent gazette notification issued by the Government of India, the union health ministry has mentioned that "In exercise of the power conferred by Section 4 (g) of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Act, 1956 (25 of 1956) as amended by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (Amendment) Act, 2012 (37 of 2012), the Central Government hereby nominates the following Members of Parliament as members of the Institute Body of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Madurai."

Among the three Tamil Nadu-based nominated members, Shri P. Ravindhranath is associated with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). He was elected as a member of the Lok Sabha back in 2019 and after that he has acted as a member of Standing Committee on Water Resources, Committee on Petitions, and Consultative Committee, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

Shri Manickam Tagore, a member of the Indian National Congress, was first elected as a member of Lok Sabha back in 2009, and again was re-elected in 2019. During his first term as an MP, he had acted as a member of the Standing Committee on Finance, National Board on Micro and Medium Enterprises, Consultative Committee on Civil Aviation, and Committee on Welfare of Other Backward Classes (OBCs).

After being re-elected in 2019, he worked as a member of Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice, Committee on Subordinate Legislation, and Consultative Committee, Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Shri N. Chandrasegharan, associated with AIADMK, was elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha back in July 2019. Before this new nomination as the member of the institute body of AIIMS Madurai, he has acted as a member of Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment, Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, and Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

"The term of office of the members shall be governed by the provisions contained in Section 6 of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Act,1956," the Union Health Ministry further mentioned.
