New Delhi: The recent announcement of dates and deadlines of NEET PG 2023 has created more stir in the minds of aspirants as students of more than 150 colleges are ineligible to apply due to the internship deadline cut-off date of 31st March 2023 that has been set up.

The National Board of examinations (NBE) has announced that NEET PG 2023 will be held on 5th March 2023. The result will be declared By 31st March 2023. As per the eligibility criteria announced by NBE, the NEET PG 2023 candidates must complete their mandatory one-year MBBS internship on or before March 31.

Right after the announcement of the date of the exam for NEET PG, doctors' associations have pointed out that many interns will not be eligible to appear for NEET PG 2023 as the internship completion date is set on 31.03.23. Approximately 75% of Interns in Maharashtra and around the country are not eligible to appear for the exam, which Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported.

Indian Medical Association Junior Doctors' Network (IMA JDN) had submitted a letter to Dr Suresh Chandra Sharma, Chairman, National Medical Commission (NMC), requesting him to postpone the eligibility criteria from 31st March 2023 to 30th June 2023.

"Students will suffer due to COVID Pandemic & delay in result publications by concerned universities," added the association.

Altogether 850 MBBS students belonging to five Gujarat-based medical colleges might not be able to appear in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2023 examination because of the Internship completion deadline given by the National Board of Examination in Medical Science (NBEMS).

Seeking uniformity and standardization in postgraduate examinations conducted in the country, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has recently written to the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). IMA opined that the well-being and welfare of students should be the primary and only focus and requested the NBE Executive Director to address the issue of eligibility criteria at the earliest.

In this video of Health Perspectives, Dr Rohan Krishnan discusses the plight of the impacted MBBS Medicos who are demanding the internship deadline be revised.
