10-year-old dies after tonsil surgery at UP Hospital, family alleges medical negligence
Uttar Pradesh: A 10-year-old girl died days after undergoing a tonsil surgery at a private hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli, with her family alleging medical negligence. The allegations surfaced in a video on social media by the girl's brother, a content creator, who appealed for a detailed investigation into the incident.
According to the family, the girl was admitted to the private hospital for what they believed would be a routine tonsil surgery. In the video, her brother alleged that the doctors initially informed the family that the operation had been completed successfully. However, he claimed that the child regained consciousness during the procedure and began screaming from inside the operation theatre.
He further alleged that family members rushed towards the operation theatre after hearing her cries. According to him, the child was later brought out while still crying, after which she was administered another injection. He claimed that her condition deteriorated within seconds, with her heartbeat stopping, following which doctors performed CPR before referring her to a hospital in Lucknow for advanced treatment.
The brother further alleged in the viral video, "Operation successfully complete ho gaya, lekin OT mein pata nahi inn logon ne kaunsa anaesthesia diya tha ki aadhe operation ke beech hi woh hosh mein aa gayi aur chillane lagi." ("The operation was said to have been completed successfully, but we don't know what anaesthesia was given in the OT because she regained consciousness midway through the surgery and started screaming"), according to TOI.
Many users offered condolences, while others questioned how a surgery that is generally considered routine could end in such a tragedy. Several tagged the Uttar Pradesh Police and the Chief Minister's Office, urging them to investigate the matter thoroughly.
The video has since been widely shared online, with many social media users expressing condolences and calling for a fair investigation into the allegations. At the time of writing, the family's allegations remain unverified, and neither the hospital nor its representatives have issued a public statement in response.
