11 Govt medical college hospitals to soon get equipment worth Rs 94.51 crore in Tamil Nadu
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has sanctioned over Rs 94.51 crore for procuring equipment at eleven new government medical college hospitals in the state.
Based on the proposal submitted by the Director of Medical Education, the government sanctioned Rs 94,51,02,510 for the purchase of the equipment.

The administrative and financial sanction was sought based on the rules of the National Medical Council regarding purchasing the equipment for Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine and Community Medicine at the government medical college hospitals.
Speaking to The Hindu, the Health Secretary Gagandeep Singh Bedi said, "We are augmenting equipment at the medical college hospitals. This is also part of the NMC norms that lay down specific equipment for each department, and we are adhering to the norms."
National Medical Commission is the apex body in India which regulates medical education and medical professionals, which was earlier called the Medical Council of India. The Commission grants recognition of medical qualifications gives accreditation to medical schools, grants registration to medical practitioners, monitors medical practice and assesses the medical infrastructure in India.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), under its corporate social responsibility programme donated Rs.12 lakh worth of medical equipment, including a Spiro meter to the Kakinada Government General Hospital. Director of Medical Education (DME) Dr Narasimham formally inaugurated the equipment at a brief function held at the GGH. While complimenting the Indian oil corporation for the gesture, the DME said the Spirometer would be of great use in treating Asthma patients. He said the GGH would be getting a facelift with the new buildings under construction as a part of the Nadu-Nedu programme become operational soon.
