Pune: Two hospitals in Pune were the target of alarming threat emails on Friday, prompting swift police responses and heightened security measures. Separate cases have been registered at the Baner and Samarth police stations against a Bengaluru-based man suspected of sending the emails.

According to police officials, the  emails—received by hospitals located in Baner and Rasta Peth contained a chilling message: “We will sacrifice patients' life to provide justice to rape victim in Hyd.” The identical emails sparked fear among hospital staff, prompting immediate searches by the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) and dog squad units.

Speaking to TOI, Senior Inspector Chandrashekhar Sawant of the Baner police said, "The hospital staffers contacted us after receiving the threatening email. Following this, the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) and the dog squad units conducted a search operation in the hospital without disturbing the patients. Nothing suspicious was found.”

Similarly, Senior Inspector Umesh Gitte of the Samarth police station mentioned that his team also conducted a search on Saturday evening with the assistance of the BDDS and the dog squad; however, nothing suspicious was found.

The Baner police registered a case against the individual associated with the email ID used to send the message to the Baner hospital, while the Samarth police booked the same suspect for the email sent to the Rasta Peth facility. Both cases were filed under Sections 125 (acts endangering human life or personal safety), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 353 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Sawant said, "The initial investigation into the email and the IP address suggests that it was sent to the hospital from Bengaluru. The email sender might have had a bad experience with a hospital in Hyderabad. The emails of the hospital were obtained by the suspect after studying the websites of the hospitals,” reports TOI.
