22-year-old dies during surgery at Ernakulam Hospital, family alleges negligence

Kochi: Allegations of medical negligence have surfaced after a 22-year-old man died following the administration of anaesthesia at a private hospital in Ernakulam, leading to an FIR being lodged against the hospital authorities.
According to the news reports, the deceased, a native of Tripunithura, had been admitted to the hospital for a scheduled surgery on March 10 to treat a minor ligament tear in his leg. The injury reportedly occurred on February 12 when the scooter he was riding overturned after a dog suddenly ran across the road.

Despite medical efforts, his death was confirmed around 10 pm, the family said.
A postmortem examination was conducted at Government Medical College (GMC), Kalamassery, following the incident. His funeral was later held at the Tripunithura public crematorium on Thursday.
The family has filed a complaint with the Ernakulam Town South police station, alleging possible negligence on the part of the hospital authorities. Based on the complaint, police registered a case of unnatural death and have begun an investigation.
