25-year-old accident victim dies at KIMS Hubli; Family alleges negligence
Bengaluru: In a tragic incident, a young man died while undergoing treatment at Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, Hubli, prompting his family to accuse the hospital staff of negligence and failing to provide immediate care.
The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Prakash, a resident of Morab village in Dharwad Taluk, who worked as a JCB operator. On March 13, while returning home on his motorcycle after work, he was allegedly hit by an unidentified vehicle, leaving him critically injured.
Following this incident, he was immediately taken by ambulance to the Dharwad District Hospital, where he received first aid. However, given the severity of his injuries, the doctors there advised shifting him to KIMS Hospital for specialised treatment.
According to the PressReader report, therefore, he was brought to KIMS during the night. However, according to his relatives, the hospital staff did not admit him immediately and reportedly cited a shortage of beds as the reason for the delay.
The family members had to wait in the ambulance for over 30 minutes, yet they received no medical assistance whatsoever. Upon failing to receive immediate help from the hospital staff, they decided to take the patient to a private hospital in Dharwad for treatment. Although it is reported that the doctors at the private hospital declared him 'brain dead.'
Subsequently, his family brought him back to KIMS, but the doctors were unable to save him. A 25-year-old man who allegedly did not receive timely treatment at the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS). His family members have strongly alleged that his life was lost due to delays in shifting the patient and the failure to provide immediate medical assistance.
