30-year-old man impersonating as doctor robs patients, bystanders at Trivandrum Medical College Hospital

Thiruvananthapuram: A 30-year-old man impersonating a doctor has allegedly robbed money, along with a mobile phone and a watch from a patient and bystanders in Trivandrum Medical College Hospital (TMCH), which is the second robbery of a similar nature reported from the college within one month. 

The Times of India reports that two purses comprising an amount of Rs 3,500 were robbed from a heart patient and her daughter in the pay ward. The police have not registered any complaint in connection with the case since they said that they haven't received any formal complaint from anyone concerning this.

The patient, who is a resident of Ilamba at Venjaramoodu was admitted to the TMCH for heart valve transplantation five days ago. On Saturday night, the accused who was wearing an apron and a stethoscope approached them by claiming to be a doctor, and subsequently checked the pulse of the patient, following which he left. However, when the patient's daughter looked for their purse to buy tea, both of their purses were found missing. 

The patient's daughter then went to the security guard with her complaint, who told her to go to the police station. 

A similar complaint was given by Krishnakumar (35), a native of Powdikonam, and Kishore, a native of Kudappanakkunnu, who alleged that they lost their mobile phone and watch at the same time. 

The police stated that they are unable to investigate the incident as no formal complaint was filed in this regard, reports the TOI. A similar incident of theft took place on May 22, when a 22-year-old man posing as a doctor, cheated money from a patient at TMCH. 

Meanwhile, health minister Veena George has vowed to take measures to intensify security at the hospital given the incident, observing that the latest incident in a month exposes flaws in the medical college security system.
