72-year-old woman Dies During Blood Test at Kolhapur hospital, inquiry ordered
Kolhapur: The death of a 72-year-old woman during a routine blood test at Chhatrapati Pramila Raje Civil Hospital in Kolhapur on Monday has led to allegations of medical negligence and prompted temporary disciplinary action against hospital staff.
The deceased, Shakuntala Madhukar Pawar, a resident of Rajendranagar, had visited the hospital for a routine blood test ahead of a scheduled cataract operation. However, according to hospital officials, she unexpectedly collapsed while her blood was being drawn and was declared dead shortly thereafter.
Enraged by the incident, family members and local residents staged a protest within the hospital premises, accusing medical staff of negligence and demanding accountability
In response to the allegations and mounting pressure from the deceased's family, the hospital administration relieved the current medical superintendent from duty and placed three attending doctors on temporary leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
