After SC Rap, Dhule Medical College appoints new Dean, braces for NMC Reinspection

Nashik: Days after the Supreme Court has stayed the Bombay High Court order of admissions to 100 MBBS seats at the Dhule-based Annasaheb Chudaman Patil Memorial medical college, the college has taken a number of measures including the appointment of a new dean in order to improve the functioning of the institute.  

As per a media report in the Times of India, the vice-chairman of the college management, Kunal Patil said that Dr. Prashant Solanke has taken over as the new dean of the nearly three-decade-old medical college in March this year. 

Taking seriously of the National Medical Commission (NMC) inspection report of the Dhule-based medical college, the Supreme Court on Friday had stayed the admissions of 100 students to the MBBS course for the academic year 2021-2022 till further orders. The Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported about the SC stay order of the Bombay High Court.

As per the SC, the NMC team during their inspection in January this year found 'hale and hearty children admitted in the pediatric ward of the hospital and medical records, including the blood pressure of patients, of a future date. 

The court also directed the NMC to conduct a fresh inspection of the college by the officers of Professor rank from AIIMS and Maulana Azad Medical College within two months to see whether it complied with required norms or not. 

However, the vice-chairman Patil spoke to the TOI, denying that any 'hale and hearty children were admitted there since there was an inspection done by the NMC team. Patil said, "There is some misunderstanding on the part of the NMC team on this issue. Our college did not admit any hale and hearty students during the time of inspection."

Patil and Solanke stated that the college would be making a request to National Medical Commission to permit the 100 MBBS students to continue with their studies. They also added that the college is completely prepared for a fresh NMC inspection as instructed by the court. Dr. Solanke further added that their college has the lowest fee structure as compared to all other medical colleges in the state. 

Dr. Solanke told TOI, "Our 13 operation theatres are well equipped. Our results in MBBS exams are over 92%. After I took over as the dean, the college has further improved in providing quality treatment to patients at its outpatient department at a minimal cost."

The Annasaheb Chudaman Patil Memorial medical college is affiliated with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS). Speaking about the issue, the vice-chancellor of MUHS said that the varsity would be looking into the issue raised by the NMC during its inspection. 

The Medical Dialogues had earlier also reported about the sudden surprise inspection by the NMC of the college following which the apex medical regulator had put it on the no-admission list.
