New Delhi: Following an unanticipated vacancy in the post of Executive Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Patna, the additional charge has been assigned to the Executive Director of AIIMS Deoghar, Jharkhand, with the approval of the competent authority, informed the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav.

The information was shared in the recent Lok Sabha session by the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav in response to questions raised by Shri Sudhakar Singh regarding whether both AIIMS in Bihar and AIIMS in Jharkhand are currently headed by the same Director, and if so, whether this arrangement is creating administrative or medical challenges. The query also sought clarification on the reasons for the arrangement and the expected timeline for the appointment of a permanent, full-time Director for AIIMS Patna.

In view of the unanticipated vacancy in the post of Executive Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Patna, the additional charge of the post of Executive Director has been entrusted to the Executive Director of AIIMS Deoghar, Jharkhand, with the approval of the competent authority. A separate Executive Director has been appointed for AIIMS Darbhanga, Bihar, and filling up of vacant posts is described as a continuous process, stated the Minister.

The post of Executive Director at AIIMS Patna has been an issue of concern since last year. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that following the findings of an inquiry report submitted by a three-member committee appointed by the government, Dr Gopal Krushna Pal, the Executive Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Patna, has been removed from his position. The report revealed that Dr Pal allegedly misused his authority to secure a non-creamy layer OBC certificate for his son to facilitate his admission into a PG microbiology course at AIIMS-Gorakhpur.
