Guwahati: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Guwahati, has inaugurated A Clinical Trial Unit (CTU), in a move aimed at advancing high-quality, ethical, and patient-centred clinical research in the Northeastern region.

The CTU will catalyse investigator-initiated trials and sponsor-led studies, improve patient access to cutting-edge therapies, and build a sustainable research talent pipeline, reports PTI.

It will also promote multi-centre collaborations with national networks and global partners to address diseases of regional and national significance.

The AIIMS Guwahati serves as a hub for healthcare innovation in the North East, fostering collaborations that translate research into improved public health outcomes, an official release said on Thursday.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the 100-bedded Neotia Bhagirathi Women and Child Care Centre in Guwahati. He also revealed plans to expand the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital into a 5000-bed facility. Marking an important milestone in enhancing specialised healthcare for mothers and children. Established as an offshoot of an MoU with the Assam Government, this facility is expected to help in expanding quality medical infrastructure across the state.

It may be noted that the launch of this 100-bed woman and child super-speciality hospital of Ambuja Neotia Healthcare Venture Limited in Guwahati would provide a comprehensive and high-quality medical care to women and children throughout Assam and the wider North-Eastern region.

"Guwahati, as an important healthcare hub for the Northeast as well as ASEAN countries, presents an opportunity to strengthen the region’s medical infrastructure.
