Bomb threat at ESIC Hospital Jaipur triggers security alert

Jaipur: A major security scare unfolded on Wednesday at ESIC Hospital in Jaipur, located near Orbit Mall on Ajmer Road, which was evacuated following a bomb threat received via email in the name of Ajmal Kasab.

The threatening email, which authorities are now treating with high concern, prompted the hospital administration to immediately alert police and security services. Within minutes, a massive contingent including the bomb disposal squad, fire brigade, civil defence, and anti-terrorism experts arrived on the scene. After an exhaustive search, no explosives or suspicious materials were found. 

The email was reportedly sent by someone claiming to be terrorist Ajmal Kasab, warning of an imminent attack involving chemical-triggered explosives.

The cyber cell launched an investigation into the source and content of an email alleging that an IPS officer from Tamil Nadu, in collusion with his wife's travel agency, had issued fake passports to former LTTE members.

According to TOI, the message said these individuals were recruited by Pakistan and were carrying mobile phones and chemical-triggered fuses. The email also alleged they were travelling in a vehicle and intended to cause mass casualties at the hospital. The sender warned that if they suspected the plan was compromised, they would either trigger the fuse or release nerve gas through an IED.

The email also urged the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) to act quickly and investigate connections to the Assistant Commissioner of Intelligence in Madurai, emphasising that the threat was genuine and not a hoax.

The threat email was received while the hospital was operating at peak hours, with hundreds of patients and staff on-site. Following the email, the entire premises were cleared, and a thorough search operation ensued.

This incident is part of a disturbing pattern. Jaipur has seen a sharp spike in bomb threat emails in 2025, with at least 65 reported so far this year. Most targeted schools, while others threatened public infrastructure like stadiums, metro stations, courts, hotels, medical colleges, and even the Jaipur Airport.

According to the news reports, earlier in May, a series of bomb threats were directed at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium on the 8th, 12th, and 13th. The May 13 threat included a demand for justice in a rape case. A 30-year-old woman was arrested by Ahmedabad police in connection with those hoax emails.

Jaipur Metro was also targeted on May 9 under a threat dubbed “Operation Sindoor.” That incident similarly ended without the discovery of any explosive devices.
