Mumbai: Panic spread across Mumbai Central late Saturday night after Nair Hospital received a bomb threat. An unidentified individual sent an email to the hospital dean warning of an explosive device on the premises. Authorities have since confirmed the threat was a hoax.

According to Mumbai Police, the threatening email was sent by an unidentified individual to the official email ID of the hospital’s dean around 11 pm. The timing of the threat raised concerns, as it coincided with the high-footfall period of Ganesh Visarjan celebrations — a time when public places remain particularly crowded in the city.

“On receiving the mail, the hospital management alerted the police, after which the security was beefed up in the area. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) soon arrived at the spot and conducted a thorough search of the premises, but found no suspicious object/s or evidence of any explosives,” said a police officer, reports the
Hindustan Times.

This incident follows closely on the heels of a recent bomb threat made by a man who had claimed that multiple bombs were planted in vehicles across Mumbai. The man, who identified himself as an astrologer and allegedly a member of a Pakistan-based jihadi outfit, also claimed that 14 terrorists had infiltrated the city.

The police seized seven mobile phones, three SIM cards, six memory card holders, an external SIM slot, two digital cards, and other electronic items from him, reports News 18.
