Capitation fee for MBBS courses? IT raids conducted at Bihar medical college
The Income Tax department recently conducted search operations at various educational institutions owned by RJD Rajya Sabha MP, Ashfaque Ahmad, including the Katihar Medical College and Hospital. Other institutions under scrutiny include the Milia Institute of Technology and International Public School, among others.
Patna: In a recent development, the Income Tax department has initiated search operations on various educational institutions owned by RJD Rajya Sabha MP Ashfaque Ahmad. This includes the renowned Katihar Medical College and Hospital, which is among the prominent institutions in the area.
Katihar Medical College is a constituent unit of Al-Karim University, Katihar is and run by the Al-Karim Education Trust, Patna with Karim being the main trustee and founder chancellor of the Katihar-based Al Karim University. The college offers MBBS courses along with several PG courses including PG in the subjects of Anatomy, Physiology,Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Bio-chemistry,Community Medicine, General Medicine, Dermatology Venereology & Leprosy,are available. Currently the medical college offers 150 MBBS seat
Sources of Income Tax department said here that search operations were carried out at the premises of Katihar Medical College and Hospital and other educational institutions owned by RJD MP Ashfaque Ahmad. ANI reports that the IT Dept has found alleged malpractices in admissions to MBBS, BDS, and PG courses. Sources said that the colleges were allegedly found taking cash in the name of capitation fee, huge donation in cash.

Other educational institutions owned by Ahmad, which are under scanner of Income Tax department are-- Milia Institute of Technology, International Public School, Milia Sir Sayed Teachers Training College, Milia Convent English School and Milia Kishanganj Institute of Technology.
Personnel from Bihar, Jharkhand, Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) were drawn to conduct search operations.

Last year Ahmad Ashfaque Karim was raided by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with its probe into the land for job scam.
While Sources told ANI that the income tax department has credible information on alleged tax evasion by the colleges which are owned by Karim, Authorities, however, did not disclose any details about recovery or irregularities of educational institutions being run by Ashfaque Ahmad.
Sources told ANI the IT officials also have information about the donation taken by the college, allegedly in cash against admission to the medical college.
