Chennai: A female staff member of a private hospital in Chennai has been arrested in connection with financial misconduct for allegedly embezzling Rs 52 lakh from the institution.

The accused, a 24-year-old woman from Thiruvarur district, was employed as a cashier at the private hospital run by Dr. Maithili and her husband, Dr. Palani. Both are experienced doctors and residents of Metrozone Flats in Chennai. The couple has been managing the hospital, located in Anna Nagar West Extension, for nearly a decade.

The situation came to light when several of the patients reported that their payments were not being reflected in the hospital records. Dr Mitali noticing this pattern became suspicious of this situation and initiated a thorough review of the hospital's accounts. The investigation revealed a significant discrepancy, leading to further scrutiny of the hospital’s finances.

The investigation has uncovered the cashier's financial misconduct at the hospital. She had allegedly redirected patient payments amounting to Rs.52 lakh into her bank account instead of the hospital's official account.

As per the recent media report by One India, upon discovering the discrepancy, Dr Maithili lodged a formal complaint with the Avadi Central Crime Branch.

In response to the complaint, the police conducted an investigation and quickly traced the transactions which led to the cashier's arrest in the Kannammapet locality in Chennai.

Authorities are conducting further investigations to determine the full scope of the fraud. As the investigation continues, it is anticipated that justice will be served, and the patients impacted by this misconduct will receive the compensation and accountability they deserve.
