Datia: In a shocking incident at a government medical college in Datia, an alleged dispute between junior doctors and a patient’s attendant reportedly led to assault, wrongful confinement, and an attempted suicide inside the hospital premises.

The incident took place in the orthopaedic ward of the medical college, where a resident of Bargaya village had accompanied his uncle for treatment. According to news reports, an argument broke out between him and some junior doctors over an unspecified issue during the course of treatment.

Family members alleged that following the altercation, nearly half a dozen junior doctors assaulted the patient attendant and locked him inside a duty room. They claimed he remained locked there for almost an hour, leaving him mentally distressed.

Upset over the incident, the patient attendant allegedly attempted suicide by hanging himself using a curtain inside the room. His family members reportedly noticed the situation in time and raised an alarm, triggering panic and chaos within the hospital premises.

A video related to the incident has also surfaced on social media, drawing public attention to the matter.

On receiving information, police from the hospital outpost reached the spot and broke open the locked room to rescue him. After the incident, tension prevailed in the medical college, and several patients were seen facing difficulties in getting treatment, according to the Free Press journal.

Meanwhile, the medical college administration presented a different account of the incident. According to the institution’s administration, the dispute began after the attendant allegedly attempted to attack junior doctors with a stool during the argument. Officials said a complaint regarding the matter was also submitted to the police station. Medical College Superintendent Dr Arjun Singh refused to treat the allegations as serious. He said, “Nothing like this happened. The matter has been resolved mutually.”

Speaking to Bhaskar English, Datia ASP Sunil Kumar Shivhare said that the dispute took place due to a misunderstanding between the attendant and the doctors. Both parties later reached a compromise at the police station. The ASP also said the attendant wanted to take the patient away, but doctors refused. However, the family insisted and said they were ready to give a written statement that they were taking the patient into their own responsibility. The argument later escalated into a physical altercation.
