Guwahati: In a shocking and disturbing case of alleged medical negligence, a 28-year-old patient who visited a private hospital in Silchar for a genital infection was left horrified after discovering that his genitals had been removed. He has accused a laparoscopic surgeon of performing the surgery without taking his consent during a routine biopsy procedure.

The patient has filed a police complaint against the doctor, alleging serious medical negligence.

The complainant stated that he had visited the hospital for treatment of a genital infection. The attending doctor advised him to undergo multiple tests and a biopsy. He followed the instructions, but when he was taken for the biopsy, he was shocked to find himself in the operating theatre without being informed about any major procedure.

After the operation was completed, the complainant was in utter disbelief that his genital organ had been surgically removed without his consent or prior knowledge. According to an NDTV report, the concerned doctor is missing and refusing to contact anyone.

The incident took place on June 19, when the person identified as Atikur Rahman of Manipur's Jiribam district approached R E Hospital in Silchar seeking treatment for what he believed to be a genital infection. After consultation, he was adviced to undergo some tests, which turned out to be normal. However, despite the test results, the doctor recommended a biopsy, to which he agreed.

Before the biopsy procedure, he was administered anaesthesia, and when he regained consciousness, a catheter was inserted. After three days, when his bandages were removed, he found that his entire genitals were gone.

"During my biopsy test, they surgically removed my genitals without my consent. When I woke up after the surgery, I found my genitals had been removed. When I asked the doctor, he didn't give a satisfactory answer," he said.

As per a Barak Bulletin report, the patient, who now lives with a permanent catheter and extreme pain, says he has been refused treatment by other doctors who fear complications from another doctor’s mistake. The accused doctor is reported to be affiliated with Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

"Now, I am helpless and don't know what to do. My life is finished. I tried to contact the doctor several times, but he didn't respond to my calls. I am in mental distress and have a problem due to the surgery," he said.

A relative of the victim told Hub News, “Due to this serious medical negligence, Atikur is suffering. Who will be held accountable? The doctor who performed the surgery must take responsibility.”

In distress, the patient has urged Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to urgently intervene and ensure accountability in the case.
