The parents of the boy, who was born hearing impaired, faced many difficulties and they wanted their son to lead a normal life like other children.
However, due to prohibitive cost of the cochlear implant surgery and lack of a suitable facility for this surgery in Latur, they could not perform the surgery on their son.
When the boy's parents met the minister, Mahajan took the initiative and gave instructions to the Dean of the hospital Dr Sameer Joshi to start cochlear implant surgery in Latur.
Chief executive officer of Zilla Parishad, Abhinav Goyal, agreed to provide funds for this surgery and accordingly, funds were made available through the District Social Welfare office.
Then, Dr Joshi started preparations for the surgery and with the help of a team of doctors from Pune, successfully performed the cochlear implant surgery, enabling him to lead a normal life.
Suresh Patil, in-charge of the District Disability Rehabilitation Center, Sensation Project, counselled and guided the parents about surgery.
After the successful surgery, the boy's mother thanked the team of doctors and Mahajan, the release added.
