According to the news reports, a six-month pregnant woman from Bairigram was admitted to the Lifeline Hospital after experiencing heavy bleeding. The attending doctor reportedly consulted a gynaecologist over the phone, who advised that she be admitted immediately.

Despite her admission, the woman continued to bleed, and relatives claimed that their repeated warnings to hospital staff were ignored. As her condition deteriorated, the gynaecologist allegedly instructed the administration to administer an injection. The patient was then taken for a sonography, during which the baby was reportedly delivered dead inside the ambulance.
The woman’s husband alleged that the death of the newborn occurred due to medical negligence and inappropriate treatment. He further claimed that when journalists attempted to question a person at the hospital following the incident, the individual fled the scene, adding to public suspicion and anger, reports India Today NE.
Speaking to Northeast Now, residents and family members said similar incidents had occurred at Lifeline Hospital previously, but no action had been taken by authorities.
Police confirmed that the situation has been brought under control. However, there are growing calls for a full investigation and strict action against those responsible for the tragic death.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that the West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission (WBCERC) has directed Megacity Nursing Home in North 24 Parganas, Barasat, to pay a compensation of Rs 10 Lakh, stating that there is a provision of the same amount of penalty in case medical negligence led to death.
