Fire Erupts in Storage Room of Balasore DHH, Promptly Doused

Jhansi: Panic swept through Jhansi Medical College early Friday morning after a fire broke out in the gynaecology ward, forcing patients and their attendants to rush for safety as smoke filled the area. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported.

The incident, which was caused by a short circuit in an electric panel box, was quickly brought under control.

Chief Medical Superintendent Dr Sachin Mahor said that at around 5 am, wires in an electrical panel caught fire, reports PTI.

Alerted by the smoke, patients and their attendants immediately informed hospital staff and began evacuating the area.

Hospital personnel swiftly took control of the situation, using fire extinguishers to douse the flames. The fire department was immediately contacted, and two fire tenders were dispatched to the scene as a precaution. Chief Fire Officer Raj Kishore Rai, who personally inspected the site, confirmed that the fire was caused by an electrical overload in the panel box, leading to a short circuit.

Meanwhile, the medical college principal, Dr Mayank Singh, stated that no one was injured in the incident. He further informed that all electric panel boxes across the medical college are being replaced as a precautionary measure, and the work is underway, reports TOI.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that at least 10 children died in a fire that engulfed the children's ward of a medical college in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi district, officials said, as 16 others injured battled for life. District Magistrate (DM) Avinash Kumar told reporters that the fire broke out around 10.45 pm in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College, possibly due to an electrical short circuit.
