GMC Udhampur: Viral video shows doctors, BJP MLA clash; Govt orders inquiry

Srinagar: A controversy at the Government Medical College (GMC), Udhampur, triggered by a video of heated arguments between doctors and a BJP MLA going viral on social media, has prompted the Jammu and Kashmir Government to order a detailed enquiry into the incident.
The incident took place on January 27, when a BJP MLA visited the medical college hospital seeking a meeting with doctors following the death of a civilian from the Sangoor area a few days earlier. What was intended as an official interaction quickly escalated into a verbal confrontation, parts of which were livestreamed online, drawing widespread attention and criticism.

Facing mounting criticism, the government ordered an inquiry into the incident.
According to Government Order No. 67-JK(HME) accessed by news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) of 2026 dated January 28, Prof. (Dr.) Ashutosh Gupta, Principal of GMC Jammu, has been appointed as the Inquiry Officer, reports Kashmir News Agency.
He has been tasked with examining the circumstances and sequence of events, including any administrative or security lapses that may have led to the circulation of the videos. The inquiry report is expected within 15 days.
