Patiala: Two weeks after some unknown persons attacked an ENT Junior resident doctor at Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala, the hospital employees have demanded the implementation of various safety measures after another similar incident was reported in the hospital where a lift attendant was allegedly attacked by unidentified persons last week.

The hospital employees, under the banner of the Employees’ Welfare Joint Action Committee of Government Medical College and Rajindra Hospital, have warned of boycotting their work from February 13 and have put forth several demands with the administration following the repetitive incidents. The employees have demanded the implementation of their demands by 12th February 2023.

Stating that various attacks have taken place against hospital employees over the past few days, the committee has demanded the administration improve the 24-hour security provisions.

They demanded the provision of a pass system for patients and the deployment of security guards at all wards. Further, the doctors asked for the upgradation of the police post on the hospital premises to a police station. A committee member told the Tribune, "All extra entries to the college and hospital should be closed while a PCR should be operational 24 hours a day".

If the demands are not met by 12th February, a committee member warned, "Else all the doctors, workers, Class III and IV employees and nursing staff will stop all their work other than the emergency ward on February 13 as a mark of protest."

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported about the demonstration staged by doctors of the Government Rajindra Hospital demanding action against the unknown persons who had attacked the ENT Junior resident doctor. They had demanded the registration of a case against the accused under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC and the Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act.

The junior resident doctor was a third-year student of Master of Surgery in ENT. The attack took place while he was on duty in the Emergency wing of the hospital. The doctor was treating a critical patient when he saw 6 men misbehaving with the nurses. When the doctor intervened, the miscreants allegedly assaulted him resulting in multiple facial fractures and skull injuries.
