IVF centre to come up at Guntur Government General Hospital
Guntur- The Andhra Pradesh government is all set to establish an In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) centre at the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Guntur, marking a significant step towards the expansion of advanced healthcare services within the public sector.
The proposed IVF facility will be developed within the GGH campus, featuring the modern infrastructure and specialised equipment required for assisted reproductive procedures.
The centre is being planned in alignment with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's approach concerning population policy and the growing demand for infertility treatment, particularly among economically weaker sections, who cannot afford expensive private hospitals where a single cycle of IVF can cost several lakhs of rupees.
The government has already commenced groundwork for this project, including identifying space within the hospital and planning the procurement of advanced laboratory equipment.
Meanwhile, the centre will be capable of handling procedures such as embryo culture, cryopreservation, and hormone monitoring, thereby becoming a comprehensive fertility unit within the government healthcare system, according to TOI.
Cases of infertility are steadily rising due to lifestyle changes, delayed marriages, and health-related issues. Therefore, establishing an IVF centre at GGH in Guntur will help provide affordable fertility treatment to couples who are unable to avail themselves of expensive private services.
In addition to treatment, counselling services will also be provided to guide couples regarding the medical and emotional aspects of infertility. The new IVF centre will be established within the recently constructed Mother and Child Care Centre at GGH.
The facility will also serve as a training hub for medical professionals, thereby strengthening expertise in the field of reproductive medicine within government hospitals. Specialists, embryologists, and trained nursing staff will be deployed to ensure superior treatment and adherence to clinical protocols.
