Ranchi: Jharkhand Health Minister Dr Irfan Ansari on Tuesday visited the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and announced that he will continue visiting district hospitals and personally attending OPDs every week.

The Minister made the announcement while examining patients personally and reviewing on-ground medical services as part of his effort to strengthen the state's healthcare system.

Following the OPD session, the minister conducted an extensive inspection of RIMS, directing immediate action to repair diagnostic machines such as CT scan and MRI units, ensure adequate availability of medicines, and improve patient services. He issued firm instructions to the superintendent and director to prioritize transparency, efficiency, and public trust.

Dr. Ansari also warned that government doctors engaging in private practice during duty hours would face strict action. He said the government is committed to strengthening public health facilities and reaffirmed that staffing gaps across departments will soon be filled through large-scale recruitment, reports UNI.

During the inspection, the minister expressed dissatisfaction over the poor condition of ambulances and directed officials to expedite the procurement of new ones.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that to meet the increasing demand for neurological care, the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) is set to add 30 beds to its neurology department, expanding the total capacity from 100 to 130 beds. The move aims to ensure timely treatment for patients.

Speaking to TOI, an official at RIMS said, “The additional beds will enable the department to efficiently handle increased patient inflow while ensuring timely specialised treatment for patients suffering from conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, brain tumours, and other complex neurological diseases.”
