Kerala: Health Minister on surprise inspection at Govt Medical College and Hospital

Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister Veena George has recently inspected the Medical College Hospital (MCH) and directed the hospital authorities to ensure the smooth functioning of the lab equipment. 

It came to the fore that many patients have been complaining about the delay in scans making them wait for a longer period of time. She directed the hospital authorities to install three CT scan machines in the hospital to ensure that the patients get the proper service.

The X-ray machine at the casualty ward should operate 24x7 and be ready to serve the patients at the time of emergency said the minister.

All of the instructions were given in a meeting which was held on Friday after the minister paid a surprise visit to the hospital. The meeting was held between the health officials and the minister including Director of medical education Dr Thomas Mathews, Medical College Hospital superintendent Dr Nizaaruddien and deputy superintendent Dr Anil Sundaram.

The minister visited the hospital at night around 10 pm and inspected the Cath lab and the lab equipment. After that, she visited the casualty ward where she talked with the patients and asked about the quality of services provided by the hospital and further listened to their grievances.

Spending nearly two hours in the ward, she told the hospital authorities that "Regular monitoring should be done to ensure that all the services at the hospital are available 24 hours."

She said that the emergency ward should be monitored each day and directed the hospital authorities to strictly monitor the functioning of the emergency wing of the hospital and that shortcomings should be reported at any time, TOI reports.
