"While the challenges put forth by the pandemic have no precedents, the CLCI team delivered best outcomes to this large number of patients, in which the youngest patient was a six-month-old baby and the oldest being 74," the hospital said in a release.

Dr. Navneetan Subramaniam, chief of liver anaesthesia and critical care of the hospital, said transplantation in patients who have recently recovered from COVID‐19 was a challenge due to uncertainties including the diagnosis, underlying post-COVID complications, multi‐organ systemic involvement, and the possibilities of immunosuppression.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that a team of doctors from a private hospital in Delhi had visited Sudan and performed the African nation's first liver transplant on a 35-year-old male patient suffering from end-stage liver failure. The problem of liver failure is on the rise among people of different age groups and is considered to be fatal, requiring immediate medical intervention.

"Liver failure is a condition that is highly affected by lifestyle choices. Therefore, it is always recommended to have healthy practices in life and be watchful of any potential symptoms of the disease. Frequent abdominal pain, nausea, and weakness can be warning signs of this fatal condition," Dr. Lalwani said.

The hospital, in a statement, told, "In the majority of cases, this condition is not detected at the initial stages and slowly deteriorates the function of the body."
