According to the news reports, the announcement was made during a review meeting convened by Ports Minister V. N. Vasavan on Saturday to assess the progress of various construction works underway at the hospital. The meeting, held at the Medical College Conference Hall, was attended online by Health and Women and Child Development Minister Veena George, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Rajan Khobragade, and Director of Medical Education K. V. Vishwanathan.

Among the major developments, the construction of both the cardiology block and the surgical block under the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) project has been completed. In addition to the existing seven operating theatres, the hospital now has a total of 14 fully functional theatres.
Addressing the meeting, Health Minister Veena George directed officials to examine the possibility of imposing penalties on the contractor for failing to complete the construction of the super-speciality block within the stipulated timeframe, reports the Hindu.
Meanwhile, the Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department (Buildings) informed the meeting that the construction of the building for the infectious disease treatment department has reached 60% completion and is expected to be finished by February. The Health Minister also instructed officials to expedite steps to demolish the EFG block, which has remained unused for a long period.

In addition, Minister V. N. Vasavan directed that a special meeting be convened with the Electricity Minister and representatives of KIIFB to discuss the construction of a 110 kV substation. The proposed substation aims to ensure an uninterrupted and reliable power supply to the hospital.
