Ludhiana: 15-year-old boy brutally murdered in civil hospital, 2 arrested

Ludhiana: In an unfortunate incident, a 15-year-old boy has been stabbed to death by a group of men, with whom he had a fight earlier, in full public view in the civil hospital, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Shavan Kumar, a resident of the EWS Colony, two people have been arrested for the murder.

CCTV footage of the incident, which took place on Thursday night, showed hospital staff and patient attendants rushing for cover as the attackers carrying sharp-edged weapons barged into the emergency ward.

The attackers also smashed windowpanes and damaged other hospital property.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, Gurdev Singh said a fight took place between two rival groups in the EWS Colony over an old enmity. Shavan was injured in the fight and taken to the civil hospital.

Later, the accused reached the civil hospital and stabbed him multiple times. He was rushed to the nearby CMC Hospital with serious injuries and declared brought dead by doctors, he said.

A case has been registered against 18 accused, including Vishal, Sahil, Abhishek, Ankur, Manu Vikas, under Sections 302 (murder), 341 (wrongful restraint), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 506 (criminal intimidation), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapons), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. Of these, two accused have been arrested, Singh said.

"When I was there with Sumit for his medical examination, Sawan was standing outside the emergency room. In the meantime, a group of assailants laced with swords and rods tried to attack him. Sawan ran inside the emergency room and tried to close its door. However, the accused broke the glass door and barged in. Sawan tried to run to safety, but the accused followed him and assaulted him to death," Sawan's brother-in-law Rajveer aged 36, a driver from EWS colony told TOI.

However, police were present at the time of the incident but made no attempts to rescue the victim. They also did not try to nab the accused. 

In response to the accusation, Inspector Nardev Singh, SHO, division number 2, said, "The police post is established inside the hospital premises where cops were present. So many people witnessed the murder, however, nobody informed the police."

Additional deputy commissioner of police-1 Rupinder Kaur Sra said, "The police have arrested two accused — Sahil and Abhishek. This murder of a minor boy is an outcome of a minor ego clash between two groups of youngsters, who lived in neighbouring localities. First, they had a spat in the morning on Thursday. At night, the accused attacked Sumit outside his house. After that both, both groups again indulged in a clash. Following that, the sibling duo and the accused had gone to the civil hospital for their medical examination, there the accused group found Sawan alone standing outside the emergency room and assaulted him to death."
