Maha: YCM Hospital, doctors booked over swapping of dead bodies
Pune: Doctors and staff members at the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital were booked by the Pimpri police after the hospital mixed up the corpses of two women and handed them over to different families.
On Tuesday night, the bodies of two women were taken to the mortuary of the YCM hospital. One of them was a 60-year-old woman who had passed away after getting injured in a wall collapse whereas the other was a 57-year-old woman who had passed away due to cancer.

The body of the 60-year-old woman was handed over to the family of the 57-year-old woman after the latter came to take her body on Wednesday morning. The error came to the fore when the family of the 60-year-old woman came to take the body.
Meanwhile, the other family had already performed the last rites of the 60-year-old woman thinking it to be their family member. When the family came to know about the mix-up, they also reportedly vandalized the cabin of YCM Hospital Dean Dr. Rajendra Wabale, reports the Indian Express.
Subsequently, the son of the 60-year-old woman filed a complaint at the police station on Thursday, following which a case was registered and the concerned doctors and nurses of YCM hospital were booked by the police. The FIR, however, do not name any doctors or staff members of the hospital. The police said that they are trying to identify those who were responsible for the mix-up.
A case was registered by the police under section 166A, related to public servant disobeying directions under law, and section 297 related to trespassing on burial places and they included the charges of bringing "indignity to human corpse".
Meanwhile, the hospital authorities also filed a complaint against the family of a 60-year-old woman for vandalizing the dean's cabin and breaking the partition glasses. Based on the complaint, the police booked the family of the 60-year-old woman by invoking Maharashtra Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage of Property) Act and other relevant sections of the IPC.
