Meghalaya announces 59 faculty posts for upcoming Tura Medical College
Shillong- Bringing good news for medical professionals, the Meghalaya government has announced the recruitment of 59 faculty positions for the upcoming Tura Medical College, which is expected to commence operations in the 2026-27 academic year.
The recruitment drive comes at a time when the State government is prioritising the operationalisation of a new medical college in Shillong and Tura to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in Meghalaya.
Applications have been invited for 14 Professor posts, 20 Associate Professor posts, and 25 Assistant Professor posts across various disciplines. In this regard, an official notification has also been issued by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, according to NE Today.
Under a Central Government scheme aimed at strengthening medical education in the Northeast, a medical college currently being constructed in West Garo Hills is being developed with the objective of improving healthcare services in the region.
A senior official from the Health Department has confirmed that the State Government is fully committed to making this institution operational during the 2026-27 academic session.
Construction work at the Tura campus is currently in an advanced stage, and efforts are underway to fulfil the requirements of the National Medical Commission (NMC); these include increasing the hospital's bed capacity and recruiting qualified teaching staff.
Last year, Medical Dialogues had reported that, as good news for aspirants seeking MBBS admission in Meghalaya, the government has announced that the Tura Medical College is going to be functional soon.
Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh, recently informed the Assembly that the ''physical progress'' of the Tura Government Medical College is 75 percent and that it would be made functional soon. The minister has further informed that the state government is calling the NMC for inspection of the medical college.
