Shillong: A male nurse at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong, has been accused of allegedly molesting a minor girl within the hospital premises.

The incident took place on July 4, following which the girl's family lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the Mawdiangdiang Police Outpost. The Khasi Students' Union (KSU) Shillong Mihngi Circle has since demanded the immediate arrest of the accused.

According to the complaint, the nurse allegedly inappropriately touched the girl, who is below 18 years of age, while she was at the hospital. Following the incident, the family approached the police and registered an FIR seeking legal action.

On Monday, a KSU delegation led by Assistant Organising Secretary Samuel Kharbani met the Medical Superintendent of NEIGRIHMS to seek clarification on the case and urge the hospital administration to ensure prompt action.

The union expressed concern that the accused had not been arrested despite the seriousness of the allegations involving a minor. KSU members also called for a speedy police investigation and stronger safety measures within the hospital for women and children.

The Medical Superintendent informed the delegation that the matter is under police investigation and that the institute would act based on the findings of the inquiry.

Speaking to The Shillong Times, Samuel Kharbani said, "We got a complaint from the family of a girl below 18 years of age saying the nurse had touched her inappropriately when she was in the hospital."

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in a shocking incident from Moradabad, a nurse has accused a BAMS intern and his family of molestation, exploitation, and demanding dowry worth Rs 5 lakh along with a Scorpio car on the pretext of marriage. The police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the allegations.
