CCTV Helps Police Rescue Baby Abducted from BMC Maternity Ward
Sagar: In a shocking incident, a newborn was abducted from the maternity ward of Bundelkhand Medical College (BMC), Sagar, on Thursday morning, sparking panic among hospital staff and the infant’s family.
Swift action by local police, aided by CCTV footage and timely coordination, led to the safe recovery of the child from the Karrapur area just hours later.
According to the news reports, the incident took place around 9 AM when a woman, dressed in a red saree, was seen on hospital CCTV walking calmly out of the ward, carrying the baby in her arms. The child's mother had delivered the baby on August 10. At the time of the abduction, family members were waiting outside the ward, unaware that someone had entered and taken the infant.
The child’s mother noted that the accused had been wandering around the ward since morning and had approached her bed several times. It was only after the accused had left that she discovered her baby was missing, prompting her to alert her family immediately.

The investigators soon received intelligence that the suspect had boarded a bus heading toward Banda. Multiple police teams from Sagar, Banda, and Karrapur converged on the area. The bus was intercepted near Karrapur, and the infant was recovered safely from two women, one of whom is believed to be around 70 years old. Both the accused women are residents of Shahgarh.
The police team returned to the hospital with the newborn, who was immediately admitted to the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) at BMC for observation. Doctors have confirmed the baby is in good health and has since been reunited with the mother.
