Nashik: A protest was held outside Nashik Civil Hospital after a nurse and a class 4 employee were allegedly beaten by an epilepsy patient when her husband was asked to leave the ward for cleaning.

Intense chaos erupted at the hospital in protest against the incident that left the victims with minor bruises. The hospital employees demanded immediate action against the patient and to install proper security in the hospital.

The incident took place on Tuesday at around 10 pm when the husband visited the patient and the nurse asked her to leave the ward as it needed cleaning.

In response to this, the 32-year-old patient attacked the nurse and the employee hired to maintain cleanliness in the hospital. The attack caused the victims injuries and bruises.

As a result, the hospital employees staged a demonstration on Wednesday morning demanding security for them at the workplace and strict measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

In return, the nurse lodged a complaint against the patient and her husband at the Sarkarwada police station. Further, an FIR has been registered by the police under sections 332 (voluntarily causing hurt), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from performing his/her duties).

However, no action has been taken by the police so far. It is unknown whether the patient is in the hospital or has been discharged.

Commenting on this, Additional civil surgeon Dr Utkarsha Dudhedia told TOI that the nurse in the hospital has taken action in response to the incident by filing a complaint against the individuals involved.

Dudhedhia said “As an immediate measure, the nurse has registered a police complaint against the woman and her husband. Furthermore, a request has been made to the Nashik division deputy director of health for 10 additional security guards, including 5 women guards. The city police will also be requested to provide police security in the hospital to tackle and prevent such incidents in the future.”
