Pankaj Kumar Singh inaugurates geriatric clinic at Indira Gandhi Hospital

New Delhi: The Delhi government has inaugurated a dedicated outpatient department (OPD) for senior citizens at Indira Gandhi Hospital in Dwarka to provide priority healthcare services for elderly patients. 

The dedicated geriatric clinic will cater to people aged 60 years and above, offering separate registration, priority OPD consultations, faster access to diagnostic services and treatment across multiple specialities, the statement said.  

During his visit, Singh inspected various departments of the hospital, including the hydrotherapy unit, emergency department and general medicine ward. He also interacted with doctors, healthcare workers and patients and reviewed the quality of healthcare services and patient facilities, reports PTI. 

The minister emphasised that the government remains committed to ensuring timely, accessible and respectful healthcare for senior citizens. 

“Our senior citizens deserve healthcare with dignity, respect and priority. This dedicated OPD is a step towards ensuring seamless and compassionate medical services for every elderly patient,” Singh said.

The hospital has also made separate arrangements for elderly patients, including dedicated registration counters, priority access to X-ray, injection room and physiotherapy services, and improved patient assistance mechanisms, according to the official statement.

Singh also appreciated the hospital’s voluntary blood donation initiatives and said the Delhi government would continue to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and introduce patient-centric services across government hospitals, with special emphasis on vulnerable sections, including senior citizens.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in a boost to Delhi's healthcare and medical education infrastructure, the Delhi Government has approved the construction of a new medical college and hostel complex at the Indira Gandhi Hospital campus in Dwarka. The proposed institution, to be built in accordance with National Medical Commission (NMC) norms, will eventually accommodate 250 MBBS seats annually, with teaching activities beginning with an initial batch of 150 students.
