Power Outage at UP Health Centre: Doctors Treat Accident Victims Using Mobile Flashlights

Lucknow: In a shocking incident, doctors at a community health centre in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur Dehat were forced to treat road accident victims using the flashlight of their mobile phones due to a power cut on Thursday. Despite the availability of two large generators at the Sikandra Community Health Centre, the power backup systems were not activated at that time. 

The incident took place after a road accident in Sikandra claimed the lives of two labourers and left 13 others injured. The victims were rushed to the Sikandra Community Health Centre for their treatment. In viral videos circulating on social media, doctors and medical personnel are seen attending to patients while using their mobile phone flashlights to provide light in the emergency room after the power went off.

Sources at the health centre revealed that the facility had two functional generators but the systems were not put to use during the power outage, leading the doctors to continue treating people under inadequate lighting conditions. This failure to utilize the backup power systems has raised serious concerns about the management and preparedness of healthcare facilities in the region.

Kanpur Dehat Chief Medical Officer Arun Kumar Singh confirmed the incident and stated that an inquiry has been launched to investigate why the backup systems were not used during the emergency.

The power outage in Sikandra occurred due to ongoing repair work on power lines in the area. Dr Singh explained that power disruptions are common in the area, and the health center had backup systems in place to handle such situations.
