According to the news reports, the woman was admitted to the hospital on Friday morning in a stable condition. However, within a short span of time, her condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to her untimely death. Her family alleged that she was denied urgent medical attention, including oxygen support.
A female relative of the deceased said the patient was admitted around 11 am, and within 15 minutes, she began complaining of breathing difficulty and repeatedly requested oxygen. However, the hospital staff allegedly dismissed her concerns, claiming they knew better.
An ASHA worker who accompanied the patient echoed these claims, stating that she had clearly informed the hospital staff that the patient was pregnant with twins and required urgent, specialised care.

Speaking to Assam Tribune, the worker claimed, "When she was admitted, everything seemed normal. She went to the washroom and then to the emergency ward. I informed the nurse that she was carrying twins and needed special care. She began experiencing breathing problems and repeatedly said she was not getting oxygen. But the medical team did not act in time. This was complete negligence." As news of the patient’s death spread, tension quickly escalated at the hospital premises. Relatives and local residents gathered at the hospital, raising slogans and demanding strict action against the doctors and nurses allegedly involved. Protesters accused the hospital administration of negligence and demanded immediate accountability for the incident.

"We demand the suspension of the doctor responsible. The patient pleaded for oxygen, but no help was provided. Even the nurses failed to act. If action is not taken, people from our village and nearby areas will intensify protests and shut down Nalbari Medical College", a protestor said, reports the Assam Tribune.
Police forces were deployed to control the growing unrest and secure the hospital premises. While officials confirmed that the situation is now under control, tensions remain high in the area.
Hospital authorities have yet to release an official statement, but internal sources indicated that an inquiry will be initiated to determine the circumstances surrounding the patient’s death and whether medical negligence was involved.
