Keonjhar: Keonjhar police have arrested the prime accused in a massive recruitment scam at the district government medical college. The prime accused, known as the 'super broker,' along with her accomplice, is accused of deceiving numerous job seekers by promising employment in exchange for hefty bribes.

The recruitment fraud involved in-person transactions where job applicants were allegedly promised government jobs at the Keonjhar Government Medical College in return for bribes.  

Viral footage, which surfaced during the investigation, allegedly shows the accused handling large sums of cash, further highlighting the extent of the illegal operation. According to allegations, they charged job seekers anywhere between Rs 50,000 to Rs 200,000, either through direct cash payments or online transfers. The aspirants were also reportedly issued fake identity cards as part of the fraudulent process.

Despite these promises, none of the job seekers who paid the money were ever given employment, nor were they refunded. In fact, those who demanded reimbursement for their payments were allegedly met with hostility.

The investigation into the case has revealed that the journey of the key suspect, who started as a sweeper at the hospital and eventually became the mastermind of this extensive fraud scheme. She reportedly offered job opportunities even before official recruitment announcements were made. Over time, she gained the trust of unsuspecting individuals, using her position to amass significant wealth by preying on their desperation for employment.

According to Odisha TV, there are suspicions that a portion of the illicit earnings may have been funneled to individuals higher in the hierarchy. The police investigation into the scam is currently underway, and further developments are anticipated soon. 

Authorities revealed that during the arrest, they recovered a trove of evidence, including 15 ATM cards, two mobile phones, and multiple fake job offer letters, which were purportedly issued to 114 candidates.

Keonjhar Superintendent of Police (SP) Nitin Kusalkar assured the public that the investigation would be thorough.  Speaking to TOI, Kenjohar SP Nitin Kusalkar said, “We are conducting a detailed investigation into the fraud, and all those involved will face arrest.”
