Pune Hospital Launches Specialized Allergy Department
Pune: To combat the rising cases of allergies in India, Inamdar Multispeciality Hospital has launched a state-of-the-art Allergy Department, aimed at providing early diagnosis, evidence-based treatment, and comprehensive patient education for individuals suffering from a wide range of allergic conditions.
The newly established department is helmed by two of Pune’s foremost specialists- Dr. Vishal Shah, a renowned Pediatric Allergy and Asthma Specialist, and Dr. Seemab Shaikh, a Senior ENT and Allergy Consultant with over 30 years of surgical and clinical experience. A graduate of BJ Medical College, Pune, Dr. Shaikh brings a wealth of expertise to the team. Together, their interdisciplinary approach ensures that patients receive world-class care rooted in cutting-edge medical research and global best practices.
Allergies affect an estimated 20–30% of India’s population, yet many go undiagnosed or are managed with inadequate, symptom-based treatments. These “silent disruptors” can impair respiratory health, digestion, skin function, and overall quality of life, often without patients recognising the root cause.
Global health bodies such as the World Allergy Organisation (WAO) and the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) stress the importance of early and precise testing to avoid misdiagnosis and prevent chronic complications.
The department is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic facilities, offering a comprehensive range of tests including Skin Prick Tests (SPT), Blood IgE Testing, Pulmonary Function Tests (PFT), Component Resolved Diagnostics (CRD), Oral Food Challenge Tests, and complete ENT evaluations with diagnostic nasal endoscopies.
As per a recent media report by TOI, the Department will provide evidence-based pharmacotherapy as the first-line treatment for allergic rhinitis. Patients who do not respond to conventional treatment for allergies are offered scientifically proven options like immunotherapy. Also, will include Allergen Immunotherapy (AIT)—a scientifically proven, long-term solution designed to desensitize the immune system over 3–5 years.
