The appointment was notified by the Punjab Governor's Secretariat, which stated that Brar would serve as the officiating Vice-Chancellor until a permanent incumbent assumes office.

Dr. Rajeev Sood, who was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of BFUHS on June 7, 2023, completed his three-year term in June 2026.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that Renowned Urologist Dr Rajeev Sood has assumed the charge of Vice-Chancellor at Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) in Faridkot. Dr Sood has a 40-year-long glorious career as a medical professional. His teaching experience includes 26 years post-MCh and 12 years as a professor. He plans to prioritise finishing pending work and aims to make BFUHS the top university in North India.
The change in leadership comes at a time when the university has been in the spotlight over a series of controversies.
Recently, the university was in the news after a doctor was suspended for dumping a dead body at the gate of a crematorium situated close to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College Hospital, a constituent college of BFUHS. Before the body was dumped in the crematorium, the patient was admitted to the medical college hospital, reports TOI.
The university also came under scrutiny following allegations of malpractice in the recruitment examination for pharmacy officers. As many as 28 candidates were apprehended for allegedly using Bluetooth-enabled electronic devices during the examination.
While the university and the Punjab government maintained that the incident involved a cheating racket that allegedly charged candidates between Rs 3.5 lakh and Rs 13 lakh to facilitate unfair means, opposition political parties claimed the episode amounted to a paper leak, reports The Daily.
Apart from these recent incidents, BFUHS has also faced a vigilance inquiry in the past over allegations of irregularities in certain procurement processes and appointments.
