QR code-based OPD registrations: 9 UP Govt hospitals listed among top 10 hospitals

"The state is on the way to becoming a perfect state. The quality of health services is continuously improving. One district-one hospital scheme is showing positive results. People are being provided health facilities in their home districts only. The state is running on the path of development. This is the reason why all the investors from the country and the world are coming here. The foundation of hospitals is also being laid based on the PPP model. Providing high-quality health services to the common man is our topmost priority," the deputy CM said.

secureLucknow: With the dream of providing high-quality medical services and making the state's health services number one in the country, Uttar Pradesh has finally achieved it with nine of its hospitals securing a place in the top 10 hospitals in the country, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare ranking based on a scan and share model of government hospitals across the country.

CM Yogi’s aim to transform UP into the healthcare Hub of India is becoming a reality with several approved missions and schemes to strengthen the health sector in the state along with the ‘One district-one hospital scheme’, which is currently showing positive feedback.

Government hospitals that have ranked in the top 10 hospitals in the country include UHM Hospital (Kanpur Nagar), Kanshi Ram Joint Hospital (Kanpur), LBRN Hospital (Lucknow), Tej Bahadur Sapru Hospital (Prayagraj), Babu Ishwar Sharan district hospital (Gonda), district men's hospital (Azamgarh), district men's hospital (Gorakhpur), Moti Lal Nehru Divisional Hospital (Prayagraj) and Balrampur Hospital (Lucknow).

National Health Authority has introduced a QR-Code-based solution in ABDM-empaneled facilities to enable patients to scan the QR code of the facility and share their demographic details and health records. This minimizes the problem of long queues at health facilities and the entry of incomplete and inaccurate data.

The QRs codes are displayed at multiple places in the waiting and registration area, patients could easily identify them and scan them using their smartphones for faster OPD registration. There are various ABDM-enabled smartphone Personal Health Record (PHR) players in the market that allow individuals to create their Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) number, link and store their health records against their ABHA number and share them with health facilities for various care purposes.

These applications also enable the scanning of QR codes in the OPD registration area, allowing individuals to transfer their demographic information (name, age, gender, and ABHA number) to the Health Management Information system (HMIS) of the hospital concerned. The hospital’s HMIS solution consumes this information and generates a token number or queue number for the patients. These QR codes are available in every hospital.

This token number is then sent to the mobile phone of the patients who can wait at designated areas until their token number is displayed on the overhead screens. Once a patient whose About Scan and Sharebar are displayed on the screen arrives at the counter, the operator retrieves the demographic details from the system based on the token number and prints the OPD card. This process drastically reduces the wait time for patients, and ensures accurate data entry into HMIS, doing away with the need for a patient to stand in incessantly long queues.

Therefore, based on the QR scan and share model of government hospitals across the country, nine hospitals from UP have taken the top 10 positions.

Expressing happiness over this achievement, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak told TOI “This is the result of a joint effort by all of us. We have made the state's health services number one in the country.”
