Jaipur: Acid attack victims in Rajasthan will now receive free treatment at both government and private hospitals, following a directive from the state health department. The order mandates hospitals to provide immediate first aid and stabilise patients before transferring them to specialized facilities for further care.

The directive, issued on December 29, specifies that failure to comply will result in action against hospitals and clinics. Under this order, free medical treatment includes clinical care, medicines, a hospital bed, and food.

The guidelines reference two Supreme Court orders that emphasize the right of acid attack survivors to receive immediate and adequate medical care. A recent verdict in a case between the Acid Survivors’ Courage Foundation and the central government further reinforced these rights, reports Bhaskar English
.

Speaking to TOI, a senior health department official said, "All govt and private hospitals are directed to ensure complete compliance with the said guidelines. If they refuse to treat victims of acid attacks and other crimes or disregard and violate the said guidelines, action will be taken against the concerned hospital and clinic as per rules under BNSS provisions."

In addition, hospitals where acid attack victims are first treated have been instructed to issue a certification confirming that the individual is a victim of an acid attack. This certificate will help survivors access further medical care, including reconstructive surgeries, and avail benefits under various government welfare schemes.

The move is aimed at ensuring timely medical intervention for acid attack survivors and strengthening accountability within the healthcare system.
