Ujjain: A retired civil surgeon, along with an accountant and a former in-charge clerk, has been booked by the Lokayukta police for alleged financial irregularities in the procurement process at the government-run Charak Bhavan Hospital in Ujjain.
Speaking to TOI, Lokayukta DSP Rajesh Pathak said, "Further investigation will reveal the amount of financial damage. Initially, it appears that about half a dozen firms have benefited."

Pathak said that the investigation revealed that the firms given work orders for two years continued to work for about two to three years after the contract dates were over, without releasing new tenders. GST amounts were paid during the payment for purchases/services to various firms, but these were not deposited with the government by the concerned firms, he said, reports TOI.
Further compounding the violations, payments were reportedly made without the mandatory clarification certificates. He added that the payments to firms were made without the approval of the competent authorities, in violation of the financial powers vested in the then Civil Surgeon of the District Hospital, Ujjain, as well as the Office of the Civil Surgeon-cum-Chief Hospital Superintendent, Ujjain (now retired).
