Tiruppur: In a surprise inspection conducted by Deputy Director of Medical and Rural Health Services Dr Kanagarani, it was found that the owner of a pharmacy was treating patients instead of a doctor at a private clinic. As a result, both the clinic and the medical shop have been sealed.

During the inspection, Dr Kanagarani found that the pharmacy owner without a medical degree was treating patients despite the clinic being operated under Dr Marshall Mahesh Antony.

Dr Kanagarani accompanied by the Inspector of Palladam Police Station Kavitha Lakshmi and subordinate police officials also spoke with the patients who informed them that they had not seen Dr Marshal Mahesh at the clinic. Moreover, when contacted over the phone, the doctor could not respond properly to the inspection team.

As per The Hindu report, the pharmacy owner accused of consulting patients without a medical degree also refused to present herself before the inspection team. As a result, the duo have been instructed to appear at the office of the Deputy Director of Medical and Rural Health Services for an explanation with relevant documents.

Medical Dialogues team yesterday reported that in a surprise visit to Kharar Civil Hospital, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gurmandar Singh discovered the absence of doctors in the mother-child care unit, with nurses reportedly conducting deliveries independently at night.

During the inspection, it was found that only two doctors worked at the hospital and were only called by the nurses if required at night. The nurses are reported to have handled normal delivery cases without the doctors. Observing the situation at the hospital, Singh alleged that a probe would be conducted following which appropriate action would be taken against the doctors on Wednesday if found guilty of letting the nurses do the delivery in their absence.
